Chetco Point Park

Located on the south side of Wharf Street, Chetco Point Park is maintained by the City with as little interference as possible to protect the nearly nine acres located on the south side Wharf Street while providing visitors access to enjoy its breathtaking beauty.

From its point of entry to its culmination on the bluff, Chetco Point Park affords the visitor  incredible views of the Pacific Ocean, the Port of Brookings-Harbor, the Chetco River and  Macklyn Cove.  Used to bring the first locomotive and rail cars into Brookings,  the rock that was altered to allow  placement of the original wharf, and portions of the old wharf pilings are still visible.

All along the meandering path, the Point offers something of interest.  With its tide pools, sandy beaches, foliage covered path, wooden bridge, and 360 degree views, a trip to the Point never disappoints.  Visitors can also view native seals on the rocky outcroppings, and during the season, whales!

Fire rings and picnic tables are available at various locations, and a llarge portion of the leading path are accessible.

Wild flowers and lush foliage are found in abundance at the Point, where they are best appreciated early April through October.  Wolf's Evening Primrose, picture here, is classified as a  'Species of Concern,' by the federal government.  Oregon  lists it as  'Threatened,' ('Endangered' being the next, and highest level,  while 'Candidates' are just below).
