Skate Park

                      A Skate Boarder's Heaven

Brookings Skate Park is located at Third and Hassett streets, within Bud Cross Park

“We have no place to have fun.”  That was the call from youth and parents of our local skate boarders.  After various unsuccessful long term attempts, and a background report given to the Council by 2000 Parks & Recreation Commission Chair Craig Mickelson, Mayor Hagbom and the City Council announced the appointment of a committee to actively pursue construction of a skate park at Bud Cross Park.

Dedication Day, June 8, 2002.

This Council Advisory Committee met at least once a month at City Hall, with Russ Johnson owner of Sessions Surf Shop, as the Chair.  Grant monies and donations were  successfully found, including a large donation from Brookings-Harbor Rotary and an anonymous donation of $100,000.

Dreamland Team was chosen to design and construct the park with construction beginning in Fall, 2001. Since completion, there have been articles on the Brookings Skate Park in major skate boarding magazines and it is featured in the Skate Oregon website.   NOW the Skate Park is completed and skaters young and old are everywhere - just go by and watch.

Even before it was complete skate boarders swarmed to use the facility.
