Volunteer Opportunities
Overview
The City of Brookings offers a wide range of rewarding volunteer opportunities. This directory is designed to help you find the various volunteer organizations in which the City is involved. Come check us out and join your neighbors who are already volunteering their time and talents.

Volunteers are special people whose dedication, knowledge, and skills make a difference in our own community, state, and nation. Complete an application form now!

Budget Committee
  • Responsible for setting the city budget each fiscal year and establishing a final tax levy for the City

Capella By The Sea Docent Program
  • Docents for the Capella by the Sea help keep the Capella open to the public during the day from May to Nov.

Parks and Recreation Commission
  • Reviews and makes recommends to the City Council on certain matters relating to City parks
  • Volunteer opportunities available by appointment only

Planning Commission
  • Reviews and makes decisions related to land use matters and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding changes to the Brookings Municipal Code, City boundary changes, and matters related to the acquisition and development of public facilities and transportation

Police Reserves
  • Police Reserves are fully sworn, volunteer police officers and subject themselves to the same risks and stress as any other officer

Public Art Committee
  • PAC's mission is "to inspire public art through visual presence and community education." The Committee is responsible for reviewing mural applications and other projects as directed by the City Council.

Traffic Safety Committee
  • Explores ways to improve the safety of pedestrian walkways, and better signage

Volunteer Firefighters
  • The City’s Fire Department is almost entirely comprised of an active and highly trained volunteer firefighter organization

Volunteer in Police Service (VIPS)
  • Supports the Police Services Division by providing various community policing services such as vacation checks, school zone crossings, crime scene security, evidence tech, traffic, and park control
