The City of Brookings is fortunate to have a number of volunteers made up of unique individuals whose knowledge, dedication and unique skills contribute to real and lasting change in our community.  Whether you are issue oriented or like a more hands-on approach, the City has something to offer.  Check out the various committees, commissions and volunteer programs below to find the right fit for you, and then...come join us! 

Application to Serve on A Committee/Commission

CITY COMMITTEES and COMMISSIONS                                   

Budget Committee
Responsible for setting the city budget each fiscal year and establishing a final tax levy for the City. Volunteer opportunities available by appointment only. For more information, view the Budget Committee page.

Parks and Recreation Commission
Reviews and makes recommends to the City Council on certain matters relating to City parks.  Volunteer opportunities available by appointment only. For more information view the Parks and Recreation Commission page.

Planning Commission

Reviews and makes decisions related to land use matters and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding changes to the Brookings Municipal Code, City boundary changes, and matters related to the acquisition and development of public facilities and transportation.  Volunteer opportunities available by appointment only. Public Art Committee
(aka PAC)
PAC's mission is "to inspire public art through visual presence and community education." The Committee is responsible for reviewing mural applications and other projects as directed by the City Council. Volunteer opportunities available by Council appointment only.  For more information view the Public Art Committee page.    

Tourism Promotion Advisory Committee  (aka TPAC)
Advises the City Council on the expenditure of Transient Occupancy Tax funds for promotional activities.  Volunteer opportunities available by Council appointment only. For more information view the Tourism Promotion Advisory Committee  page.

Traffic Safety Committee
Explores ways to improve the safety of roadways, pedestrian walkways, and better signage. Volunteer opportunities available by Council appointment only.  For more information view the Traffic Safety Committee page.


Capella By The Sea DocentsPhoto of Capella
Docents for the Capella by the Sea help keep the Capella open to the public during the day from May to November.  For more information view the Capella by the Sea page or call (541) 469-1103.   

Park Rangers
Park Rangers patrol the City's designated outdoor spaces, ensuring that residents and visitors  are not disrupting the natural environment or guest experiences as well as providing maps, pointing out areas of special interest, among other duties. Police Reserves
Police Reserves are fully sworn, volunteer police officers and subject themselves to the same risks and stress as any other officer.  Contact the Police Department for an application.

Volunteer Firefighters
The City’s Fire Department is comprised of an active and highly trained volunteer firefighter organization.  Contact the Fire Department for an application.
