Mayor Larry Anderson's
extended family settled in Harbor,
Oregon in 1924. In 1941, Larry's grandfather, Archie Anderson, migrated
to Brookings. A year later, Archie purchased a quarter
mile of beachfront property (now know as Beach Avenue in
Brookings) for $4,000. Needless to say, real estate has
appreciated since then. Archie was instrumental in
establishing the Elks Lodge in Brookings and held membership #2
until he passed away in 1997.
Larry graduated from the University of Pacific in Stockton, CA,
with a B. A. in history. He also holds a Lifetime Secondary
Teaching Credential in California and a Masters Degree in
Education from California State University at Sacramento.
Larry's profession was as an educator at the secondary level.
Since 1976, Larry's livelihood has been derived from the housing
construction business. Between Larry and his wife, Susan, they
have four children and five grandchildren.
Larry also currently serves on the Brookings-Harbor 17C School
Board. He assisted in the passage of a school facilities bond,
the first passed by our community in 25 years. Larry is very
interested in establishing a vocational construction technology
program at the high school.
Larry is concerned about land use planning. He hopes to
continue to contribute to the sound management of growth in the
Brookings-Harbor area.
