A primary function of the
Planning Department is to support the city's
Planning Commission. In this
role, the department's responsibilities are divided into two separate,
but related, areas, advanced planning and current planning.
Advanced planning is just
that - looking to the future and asking such questions as: What is the community's vision for the
future? How do we get there? How do we ensure that the city
develops in an orderly manner? Current planning is the
review and evaluation of land use applications such as partitions,
subdivisions, and conditional use permits, to ensure compliance
and compatibility with current Land Development Code and future plans
for the City.
The Planning Department
also acts as the zoning enforcement agency for the city.
