The City of Brookings offers a wide range of rewarding volunteer opportunities. This directory is designed to help you find the various volunteer organizations in which the City is involved. Come check us out and join your neighbors who are already volunteering their time and talents. 

Volunteers are special people whose dedication, knowledge and skills make a difference in our own community, state, and nation.

American Music Festival Board

Organizes FREE annual summer concert series in Azalea Park.

 

Budget Committee

Responsible for setting the city budget each fiscal year and establishing a final tax levy for the city. Contact the Administrative Services Department at 541-469-1123 for more information. By appointment.

 

Capella By The Sea Docent

Docents for the Capella By The Sea help keep the Capella open to the public 7 days a week.

 

Firefighters

The City has a volunteer Fire Department. (Contact the Fire Department for application).

 

Parks and Recreation Commission

Recommends to the city council plans for future growth, development, beautification, and establishment of parks and recreational facilities in the city. By appointment.

 

Planning Commission

Reviews and submits recommendations to the city council regarding the city boundary changes or any public program for the acquisition and development of public facilities and transportation. By appointment. 

 

Police Reserves

Reserve volunteers wear the uniform and badge of the Brookings Police Department and serve as fully sworn, volunteer police officers. They subject themselves to the same risks and stress as any other officer, and all without being paid.  (Contact Police Department for application).

 

Public Art Committee

Reviews applications for murals to be placed on buildings or other structures in the City. Contact the Planning Department at 541-469-1138 for more information. By appointment.

 

Traffic Safety Committee

Explores ways to improve the safety of pedestrian walkways, and better signage. Contact the Police Department at 541-469-3118 for more information.  By appointment.

 

Urban Renewal Advisory Committee

Advises the Urban Renewal Agency on the implementation of the Urban Renewal Plan.  Contact the City Manager's office at 541-469-1100 for more information.  By appointment.

 

Volunteer in Police Service (VIPS)

Help the Police with various community policing services such as vacation checks, school zone crossing, crime scene security, evidence tech, traffic and park control. (Contact the Police Department for application).
