Wastewater Treatment Plant (aerial view)

The City of Brookings Wastewater

Treatment Plant is a trickling filter solids contact plant, with a design flow of 1.7 MGD average dry weather flow, and a 15.5 MGD peak wet weather flow.

The City of Brookings operates one wastewater treatment plant, maintains wastewater collections pipes, and treats over 500 million gallons of wastewater a year. The sanitary sewer system is a gravity system which uses 11 lift stations to pump wastewater from lower elevation portions of the system to the treatment plant at 905 Wharf Street.  The treated wastewater is discharged into the Pacific Ocean.  Biosolids, a byproduct of the treatment process, are stored and recycled each year as a soil amendment to agriculture and forest sites for beneficial reuse. The City  is in the process of constructing biosolids dewatering facility which is slated to begin operations by the end of 2011.
